GIF MANIA

The classic chat game all grown up

GIF Wars: the game your group chat already plays.

Someone posts a prompt. Everyone fires back the perfect GIF. The best one wins bragging rights. That's GIF Wars — and whether you play it in a group chat or on a big screen with scoring and voting, this page has you covered.

How to play GIF Wars anywhere (the manual way)

  1. Pick a judge for the round — rotates every round.
  2. The judge posts a prompt. "My reaction when the WiFi dies." Anything with a feeling in it.
  3. Everyone else has two minutes to answer with one GIF. First instinct usually wins.
  4. The judge crowns a winner. A point (or just glory). Next judge up.

Variations worth stealing: themed rounds (movie GIFs only) · speed rounds (30 seconds) · anonymous mode (someone reposts the GIFs so the judge can't play favorites — hard in a chat, automatic in the version below).

Or skip the setup — GIF Mania runs GIF Wars for you

The game-show version, free in the browser: your questions go up on one big screen — a TV, a projector, or a shared screen on a video call — everyone answers from their phone, and the whole room votes instead of a single judge. Anonymous voting, automatic scoring, podiums, a winner's ceremony. No accounts for players, 4–20 people.

GIF Wars FAQ

Is GIF Wars the same as GIF Battle?

Same game, different name — some crowds say GIF battle, some say GIF wars. Either way: prompt, GIFs, winner.

Can we play GIF Wars over Zoom or in Slack?

The chat version lives naturally in Slack. For meetings, the GIF Mania version works over any video call: share the game window, everyone plays from their phone.

How many people can play?

In a chat: any number. On GIF Mania: 4–20 per game, sweet spot 5–10.

Do players need an app or an account?

No — players open a link on their phone, type the PIN, pick a name. Only the host has an account.

Is it free?

The chat version is free by nature — and hosting and playing on GIF Mania are free too.
